AF Payments, Inc. announced that starting August 8, Monday, commuters can use their beep™ card to pay for rides in select routes of Froehlich Tours, one of the premium point-to-point (P2P) bus systems in the metro.

Select routes are Trinoma to Glorietta 5 and vice-versa, and SM North EDSA to SM Megamall and vice-versa and the standard fare for these:

Trinoma-Glorietta 5 route – P55
SM North-Megamall route – P40

This is the first time that we’re implementing the beep™ system for a premium P2P bus line. We hope that commuters enjoy the convenience using beep™ card and the comfort of Froehlich Tours’ modern bus fleet,” said Peter Maher, president and CEO of AF Payments, Inc.

Froehlich Tours offers commuters a reliable mode of transportation, allowing shorter travel time as buses leave on schedule and travel from the terminal to the drop-off point without stops.

This partnership with beep™ card is significant for us because it is true to our mantra of connecting the city. We’re positive that this will further improve the commuting experience of Froehlich bus riders,” said Chris Bauer, Froelich Tours Inc., CEO.

The beep™ card is a tap-and-go payment system accepted in all three elevated railways (LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3) and select bus lines. It can be purchased for P20, is reloadable and valid for four years. More information about beep™ is available at and on Facebook (beep card) and Twitter (@beep_card).

DOE partners with Petron for country’s first EURO-4 fuel economy run

The Department of Energy (DOE) has partnered with country’s leading oil company Petron Corporation in the first economy run in the country using cleaner and more efficient Euro 4 fuels.

Euro 4 is a globally – accepted European emission standard for vehicles which require significantly low amount of sulfur (0.005% or 50 parts per million) and benzene (maximum of 1% by volume).

Petron will be the fuel partner and the eco-run was developed as the DOE announced last March 2016 that it will expand the Philippine Energy Standards and Labeling Program (PESLP) to include more appliances, lighting systems, and light duty motor vehicles to strengthen the country’s energy efficiency and conservation efforts. To date, only air-conditioners, split-type air conditioning systems, refrigerators with 5 to 8 cubic feet storage capacity, three types of fluorescent lamp, and electrical ballasts are required to have an energy efficiency rating.

The results of the economy run will be used by the DOE as a benchmark for fuel efficiency labelling which will soon be required of all car manufacturers and importers.

Nearly 80 vehicles nominated by 20 car manufacturers and importers will participate in the event which will begin at 12:01 a.m. on May 27 at the Petron Clark Station in Angeles City, Pampanga to Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway (TPLEX) via Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and then back to TPLEX northbound and to Petron Clark station as the final destination.

Participating car companies are the following:

Pilipinas Taj Autogroup, Inc. (Tata Motors)
Isuzu Philippines Corp.
Nissan Philippines, Inc.
Volvo Philippines
Toyota Motors Philippines Corp.
Suzuki Philippines, Inc.
Ford Group Philippines
Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc.
Honda Cars Philippines Inc.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp.
British United Automobiles, Inc. (Mini)

The following car distributors will also participate in country’s first Euro-4 ecorun:
Eurobrands (Peugeot)
Automobile Central Enterprise (Volkswagen)
PGA Cars (Audi, Porsche)
Motor Image Philippines (Subaru)
Columbian Autocar Corp. (KIA)

We are proud to partner with the DOE as part of our efforts to promote the use of cleaner and more efficient fuels. We are even prouder to showcase our superior Euro 4 fuels which are produced in the Philippines and formulated for local driving conditions,” said Petron General Manager Lubin B. Nepomuceno

Petron was the first to introduce a full line up of locally-produced Euro 4-standard fuels, a year ahead of the DOE’s 2016 mandate. Its four Euro 4 gasoline variants – Blaze 100 Euro 4 (RON 100), XCS (RON 95), Xtra Advance (RON 93), and Super Xtra (RON 91) and two diesel variants—Turbo Diesel Euro 4 and Diesel Max Euro 4– are available nationwide.
